Weddings, Blogs, Social Media And All that...
Updated: 4 days ago

I’m finally here. I’m actually really doing it. I’m actually writing a blog.
It’s been such a long time and over the years I have been promising myself to write things. Anything. I had all these plans of writing lovely wedding blogs, of my lovely brides, their blummin delightful stories, colours, styles, guest blogs, tips and tricks etc but alas I did not. I guess I have all the ideas, but never seem to implement them. It’s called time.
And this brings me to the subject of Social Media. The changing face of business marketing as we know it. But, I remember when marketing wasn’t a 24/7 job when you didn’t have to keep creating content. When you didn’t have to remember to post pictures all the time and juggle different platforms. If you follow me on Insta and Facebook, you may notice I am not a regular poster. I do it when I remember to. Or mostly, when I look through my pics on my phone and think ‘oh, maybe I should post this pic’. So you won’t be surprised to hear I won’t be joining TikTok or Snapchat. Sorry, but I may be hilarious ( I’m joking), but I don’t want to be a slave to create funny videos to keep people watching, and even after all the effort some talented people put into their content, it sometimes doesn’t even get the views. Because of those clever little things -ALGORITHMS.
And as of a few years, I have successfully weaned myself off social media to a degree. I no longer see people's profiles, so I do miss out on what everyone is getting up to. But I didn’t want to keep staring at my screen. But that’s ok, isn’t it?
So, if you know me personally, you will know I’m getting on. I’ve been around for years, but as an ‘oh it was better in my day’ kind of plea, I do actually wish I could go back to the simpler days of marketing, which was - The good old Yellow Pages (pay for an advert, tweak it, proof it, ok it) and there it was, in print - for a whole year. The Phone Directory wasn’t too bad. Direct Mail always worked well for me. Wedding fayres (I admit I struggle, I’m quite shy and terrible at selling myself) Real-life networking. And let's not forget that old cliche;- word of mouth. Yeah, people actually talking about you with their mouths, to another human being, in the flesh. It still happens, honestly!
A bride recently told me, I was recommended by her hairdresser whose client had been a bridesmaid and had mentioned me. Not via a social media platform where someone asks for a wedding makeup artist recommendation and about 30 people recommend 30 different makeup artists. Seriously, who has time for that? You may not have to leave your sofa, but literally, you won’t be able to leave your sofa. It’s exhausting.

This week I’ve had quite an influx of enquiries for 2023, which tells me, weddings are still going strong and that’s really quite wonderful and positive after the rough few years we’ve endured and seem to be still enduring.
But I’m so looking forward to 2023. I’ve got quite a few of you lovely brides booked in already, and a few for 2024.
So I am looking forward to creating beautiful makeup for you all. And in the meantime, have a look at Pinterest for some makeup inspo for me to work with when we finally meet.
And I might even manage some of the blogs I mentioned at the start of this blog. (But I’m not going to promise anything).
Love to you all,
Paula x
